Conduct a Systematic Evidence Review

A reproducible, bounded synthesis with transparent search, screening, extraction, bias assessment, and reporting.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Formulate the review question, intended use, protocol, eligibility criteria, outcomes, and stopping date before searching.
  2. Select information sources and record complete search strategies, dates, filters, and limits for each source.
  3. Import results into a deduplicated register while retaining source database and identifier metadata.
  4. Screen titles and abstracts, then full texts, recording reviewer decisions and exclusion reasons under the protocol.
  5. Extract predefined study characteristics and results into a calibrated form and verify high-impact entries.
  6. Assess risk of bias or evidence limitations using a method appropriate to the study designs.
  7. Synthesize findings without overstating certainty and report search counts, exclusions, included studies, limitations, conflicts, and update date.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Review question and intended use
  • Eligibility criteria and date limits
  • Databases or source access
  • Preferred appraisal framework

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: skill-packs
  • skills/engineering/mattpocock/research/SKILL.md
  • skills/product/pm-data-analytics/sql-queries/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not change eligibility criteria after seeing results without documenting and justifying the amendment.
  • Do not infer causation or certainty beyond the underlying designs and appraisal.
  • For health, legal, or financial decisions, require review by appropriately qualified professionals.

Done means

A checkable finish.

A third party can reproduce the searches and screening trail, every included study has a structured extraction and appraisal, and the final synthesis reports limitations and selection counts.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
