Design a Preregistered Study with Power Analysis

A preregistered study protocol that fixes the question, estimand, sampling plan, power or precision target, exclusions, and stopping rules before outcome data are inspected.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Define the research question, population, intervention or exposure, comparator, outcome, estimand, design, ethics requirements, and decision context.
  2. Specify primary and secondary outcomes, minimum meaningful effect, expected variance, alpha or confidence level, power or precision target, and planned subgroups.
  3. Calculate sample size or precision with an available and documented method, recording assumptions, software version, code, sensitivity analyses, and feasibility limits.
  4. Predefine eligibility, allocation or masking, measurement, exclusions, missing-data handling, stopping rules, and the boundary between confirmatory and exploratory work.
  5. Register or time-stamp the protocol before outcome data are inspected, document any pilot separately, and preserve deviations rather than rewriting the plan.
  6. Obtain statistical, domain, compute, ethics, and data-owner review as appropriate, then record approval conditions and unresolved feasibility risks.
  7. Return the versioned protocol, power or precision rationale, registration evidence, analysis commitments, and unresolved risks without starting data collection or enrollment.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • research question and population
  • outcomes, estimand, and design
  • effect, variance, and feasibility assumptions
  • ethics, registration, and analysis constraints

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Verify the actual tools, accounts, permissions, and workspace before starting; never claim an unavailable tool, account, source, or capability.
  • Use Latch/target-workspace for private code, artifacts, live probes, or non-public data; if that access is unavailable, stop at the boundary and report the blocker rather than substituting a guess.
  • Pause for explicit approval before consequential external actions; return evidence and unresolved risks, assumptions, and any action still awaiting approval.

Done means

A checkable finish.

A preregistered protocol fixes the question, estimand, outcomes, power or precision rationale, sampling and analysis plan, stopping rules, approvals, evidence, and unresolved risks.

AI acts. You decide.

A human brake for AI.

Latch shows every command, click, and file change before it happens — so you can say yes, no, or not yet.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
