Build and Rehearse a STAR Interview Story Bank

A reusable set of truthful behavioral examples that can be adapted under interview pressure.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Collect the role description and a representative set of likely behavioral competencies or questions.
  2. Map each competency to a specific experience in which the user personally took meaningful action.
  3. Draft each example as Situation, Task, Action, and Result, keeping context brief and emphasizing the user’s decisions and actions.
  4. Add concrete outcomes, lessons, and tradeoffs only when they are supported by the user’s memory or records.
  5. Check coverage so the story bank includes collaboration, conflict, initiative, failure or learning, and role-specific skills where relevant.
  6. Run timed mock questions in varied wording and ask follow-ups that test clarity, ownership, and reflection.
  7. Revise answers into flexible talking points rather than memorized scripts and prepare questions for the interviewer.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • target role or job description
  • work and project history
  • known interview format
  • practice time available

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • skills/product/pm-product-discovery/interview-script/SKILL.md
  • skills/product/pm-toolkit/review-resume/SKILL.md
  • skills/engineering/mattpocock/teach/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not fabricate stories, metrics, or individual ownership of team results.
  • Avoid requesting confidential employer, client, or personal data in examples.
  • Feedback should focus on clarity and evidence, not accent, appearance, disability, or other protected traits.

Done means

A checkable finish.

The user has at least five verified STAR stories, can answer a varied mock set within the intended time, and has a short list of interviewer questions.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
