Draft and Validate a Standard Operating Procedure

A controlled SOP that a trained operator can follow and an owner can approve.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Name the process owner, audience, objective, scope, trigger, boundaries, and required approvals.
  2. Interview subject-matter experts and collect current forms, screenshots, policies, controls, and examples.
  3. Map the actual sequence, decision points, roles, inputs, outputs, exceptions, records, and safety or quality checks.
  4. Draft the SOP with purpose, scope, responsibilities, prerequisites, numbered actions, exception handling, references, and revision metadata.
  5. Have an independent operator perform a dry run while recording ambiguities, missing prerequisites, and observed deviations.
  6. Revise the document, resolve feedback with the process owner, and obtain named approval.
  7. Publish the controlled version, archive superseded versions, train affected users, and set a review date.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Process goal and scope
  • Subject-matter expert or process owner
  • Existing materials and required controls
  • Approval and review requirements

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: documents
  • skills/engineering/mattpocock/writing-for-agents/SKILL.md
  • skills/content/content-creator/SKILL.md
  • skills/product/pm-toolkit/grammar-check/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not invent operational, safety, regulatory, or technical steps when evidence is missing.
  • Require domain-owner validation and a real dry run before release.
  • Mark drafts and superseded versions clearly so they cannot be mistaken for the active procedure.

Done means

A checkable finish.

A named owner approves the SOP after a successful dry run, the controlled version has revision metadata, and publication and review dates are recorded.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
