Review Payroll Records for Completeness

A period-by-period payroll evidence pack with missing or inconsistent records identified before professional or regulatory review.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Confirm the employer, jurisdictions, worker population, pay periods, and payroll systems in scope.
  2. Inventory employee identity records, hours, pay rates, additions and deductions, pay statements, tax deposits, and filed returns supplied by the user.
  3. Build a pay-period control table showing gross pay, deductions, net pay, payment date, and supporting source for each worker.
  4. Cross-check hours and rates against payroll results and compare aggregate payroll to bank disbursements and general-ledger entries.
  5. Flag missing periods, duplicate employees, unsupported adjustments, late-looking deposits, and retention gaps without deciding legal compliance.
  6. Prepare an exception report and indexed evidence folder for payroll staff, counsel, or an accountant.
  7. Record reviewer decisions and preserve the approved package under the applicable retention schedule.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Payroll register and pay-period scope
  • Time records and pay-rate data
  • Bank or general-ledger exports
  • Tax deposit and filing records

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: finance-pack
  • skills/finance/financial-analyst/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not classify workers, calculate legal liability, or determine wage-and-hour compliance.
  • Apply least-privilege access because payroll files contain sensitive personal and financial data.
  • Escalate discrepancies, jurisdiction-specific retention questions, and corrective filings to payroll, accounting, or legal professionals.

Done means

A checkable finish.

All expected pay periods and required data fields are accounted for, totals are cross-checked, and every gap or inconsistency is assigned for human resolution.
