Discover Candidate Agent Skills
A reproducible candidate inventory for agent skills that records trigger, source, version, dependencies, permissions, license, and fit evidence before any installation.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Define the task taxonomy, trust boundary, minimum capabilities, prohibited actions, evaluation cases, search limits, and the smallest acceptable skill footprint.
- Search the named catalogs, registries, repositories, and internal references at their pinned revisions, recording each candidate's source, revision, retrieval date, and discovery query.
- Inspect metadata and provenance only: names, descriptions, tags, paths, license fields, dependencies, required tools, and whether an item is a skill, framework, or installer; do not execute candidate content.
- Filter candidates by fit, dependencies, tool requirements, data exposure, unsafe automatic execution, and task ownership, marking missing provenance, unclear licenses, and unavailable metadata explicitly.
- Rank and compare candidates in a bounded shortlist with reasons to inspect, reasons to reject, capability declarations, and unresolved questions; select at most one candidate for deeper provenance review.
- Do not install, import, bulk-load, or execute any candidate; record the selected-for-review or not-selected state and keep private notes in the target workspace.
- Return the source-linked shortlist, provenance ledger, license observations, capability declarations, coverage gaps, exclusions, and unresolved risks, then stop before installation or external publication.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- task taxonomy and trust boundary
- approved catalogs and source boundaries
- evaluation cases and minimum fit criteria
- installation and review policy
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Verify the actual tools, accounts, permissions, and workspace before starting; never claim an unavailable tool, account, source, or capability.
- Use Latch/target-workspace for private code, artifacts, live probes, or non-public data; if that access is unavailable, stop at the boundary and report the blocker rather than substituting a guess.
- Pause for explicit approval before consequential external actions; return evidence and unresolved risks, assumptions, and any action still awaiting approval.
Done means
A checkable finish.
A bounded candidate-skill shortlist records source, revision, trigger, permissions, dependencies, license, fit evidence, capability declarations, exclusions, unresolved risks, and no imported or executed content before installation.
