Establish an SBOM Generation and Review Pipeline
Each governed software release has a machine-readable, attributable component inventory that can support vulnerability and supply-chain decisions.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Define covered products, release stages, consumers, approved SBOM formats, minimum data fields, naming conventions, retention, and access rules.
- Choose generation points that reflect the shipped artifact, such as resolved build dependencies, container images, and packaged binaries rather than only manifest files.
- Generate the SBOM in CI with pinned, trusted tooling and capture product, component, version, supplier, relationship, identifier, timestamp, and author metadata where available.
- Validate syntax, required fields, component relationships, duplicate handling, and correspondence between the SBOM and the release artifact.
- Sign or bind the SBOM to artifact identity, store it in an approved repository, and publish it to authorized consumers using versioned access controls.
- Use SBOM data with vulnerability intelligence and reachability or deployment context to open, prioritize, and track remediation work.
- Monitor pipeline health and regenerate or amend SBOMs when artifacts change, errors are found, or minimum-element requirements evolve.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Covered products and release artifacts
- Build pipeline access
- Required SBOM format and fields
- Distribution and retention policy
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.
- Router:

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Run only in authorized build environments and protect proprietary component information according to policy.
- Do not claim completeness when opaque binaries, dynamic dependencies, or unavailable supplier data create known gaps.
- An SBOM is an inventory input, not proof that components are safe or exploitable.
Done means
A checkable finish.
A release-gated validation proves every covered artifact has a parseable SBOM meeting required fields, bound to the correct artifact, stored and accessible to approved consumers.
