Incident Response
Conduct a Security Incident After-Action Review
The organization turns incident evidence into verified improvements without blaming individual responders.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Confirm containment and recovery are stable, define the review scope, and appoint a neutral facilitator.
- Assemble a factual timeline from alerts, tickets, chat logs, system records, decisions, and participant recollections while preserving source provenance.
- Compare what happened with the incident plan and identify detection, escalation, authority, tooling, communication, evidence, and recovery friction.
- Analyze contributing conditions and control failures rather than stopping at individual error or the first apparent root cause.
- Document what worked, what failed, unresolved risks, and lessons that apply beyond the affected system.
- Translate findings into prioritized corrective actions with owners, deadlines, dependencies, and objective evidence of completion.
- Share an approved summary with relevant stakeholders and track actions until retesting confirms closure.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Incident record and evidence sources
- Responder and stakeholder roster
- Current response plans and policies
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Separate verified facts, assumptions, and open questions.
- Limit sensitive incident details to authorized participants and approved storage.
- Use a blameless process while preserving accountability for agreed corrective actions.
Done means
A checkable finish.
An approved timeline and after-action report are published, corrective actions are assigned, and critical actions are later validated through tests, exercises, or control evidence.
