Cybersecurity
Prioritize a Vulnerability Backlog by Exploitation Risk
A defensible remediation queue that emphasizes vulnerabilities that are exploited or materially threaten critical services.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Normalize scanner findings by asset, software version, CVE, detection time, and evidence, then remove duplicates and stale detections.
- Confirm asset ownership, internet exposure, business criticality, data sensitivity, compensating controls, and whether the vulnerable component is actually reachable.
- Check each CVE against CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog and gather authoritative vendor advisories and available fixes.
- Apply a consistent decision model such as SSVC, using exploitation status, technical impact, mission prevalence, and safety or business consequences rather than CVSS alone.
- Assign a disposition, owner, target date, and approved treatment: patch, configuration mitigation, isolation, acceptance, or false-positive closure.
- Escalate overdue KEV and critical exposed items, track exceptions with expiration dates, and verify remediation through rescanning or direct version checks.

Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Vulnerability export or API access
- Asset inventory and owners
- Risk and remediation SLA policy
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Treat scanner output as unverified until asset context and detection evidence are checked.
- Do not probe or patch systems outside the approved administrative scope.
- Require accountable approval and an expiry date for risk acceptance.
Done means
A checkable finish.
All valid findings have a documented risk disposition, owner, due date, and rationale, while remediated items are independently verified closed.
