Prioritize a Product Roadmap with RICE
A transparent, evidence-linked ordering of comparable initiatives, with uncertainty and strategic exceptions visible.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Define the decision horizon, strategic objectives, eligible initiatives, capacity constraints, and a consistent scoring unit.
- Estimate reach over the same period using analytics or defensible proxies and link the evidence for each estimate.
- Assign impact using one shared ordinal scale tied to the selected product outcome rather than vague enthusiasm.
- Set confidence based on evidence quality and estimate effort across the full delivery team using the same unit for every initiative.
- Calculate RICE scores, sensitivity-check uncertain inputs, and flag dependencies, mandatory work, risk reduction, and strategic commitments that scores do not capture.
- Review with stakeholders, record decisions and overrides with rationale, sequence the roadmap, and schedule rescoring when evidence or constraints change.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Candidate initiative list
- Planning horizon and strategic goals
- Reach, impact, confidence, and effort evidence
- Capacity and dependency constraints
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Do not compare scores built from different time horizons or units.
- Do not fabricate precision; expose ranges and low confidence.
- Treat the score as decision support, not an automatic decision, and document overrides.
Done means
A checkable finish.
Every eligible initiative has evidence-linked inputs or an explicit unknown, scores are calculated consistently, dependencies and mandatory work are represented, and the decision owner approves the ordered roadmap with recorded overrides.
