Migrate Agent Context with Verification and Rollback

A staged migration plan for moving agent context and operating instructions between workspaces or runtimes with checkpoints, parity checks, and a tested rollback.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Inventory context files, memory, configuration, secrets, references, tool permissions, current runtime, and the exact source and target revisions.
  2. Classify each item as portable, host-specific, regenerable, sensitive, or intentionally excluded, and define the target contract and compatibility tests.
  3. Snapshot the source, create an isolated target workspace, and copy only the approved minimum through Latch/target-workspace when private context is involved.
  4. Run parity checks for instructions, paths, tool availability, permissions, environment variables, session behavior, and output examples before switching.
  5. Canary the target with representative tasks, compare evidence and failures, and hold the old environment read-only until the acceptance gate is met.
  6. Define the switch, monitoring window, rollback trigger, data synchronization rule, and responsible approver, then rehearse rollback without destructive cleanup.
  7. Return the migration record, verification evidence, retained source, rollback status, and unresolved risks, and pause before a production cutover.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • source and target runtime details
  • context and configuration inventory
  • permissions and sensitive-data boundaries
  • rollback owner and acceptance criteria

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Verify the actual tools, accounts, permissions, and workspace before starting; never claim an unavailable tool, account, source, or capability.
  • Use Latch/target-workspace for private code, artifacts, live probes, or non-public data; if that access is unavailable, stop at the boundary and report the blocker rather than substituting a guess.
  • Pause for explicit approval before consequential external actions; return evidence and unresolved risks, assumptions, and any action still awaiting approval.

Done means

A checkable finish.

A reversible migration record proves context parity, tool and permission checks, canary evidence, cutover ownership, and a tested rollback path with unresolved risks visible.

A human brake for AI.

Latch shows every command, click, and file change before it happens — so you can say yes, no, or not yet.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
