Conduct a Data Protection Impact Assessment
A proposed high-risk data use is mapped, challenged for necessity and proportionality, and redesigned to reduce risks to people before launch.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Screen the project early to determine whether a DPIA is required or prudent and record the rationale.
- Describe the processing purpose, context, data subjects, data elements, sources, recipients, locations, technologies, frequency, retention, and end-to-end data flows.
- Consult relevant product, security, legal, privacy, operations, processors, and representative stakeholder perspectives where appropriate.
- Assess necessity and proportionality, including lawful basis, purpose limitation, minimization, accuracy, transparency, individual rights, retention, and processor arrangements.
- Identify plausible harms to people and evaluate likelihood and severity using a documented method.
- Choose measures to avoid, reduce, transfer, or accept each risk; assign owners, dates, and residual-risk ratings.
- Obtain required privacy or leadership approval before processing begins, consult the regulator where legally required, and review the DPIA when the processing or risk changes.

Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Project purpose and proposed processing
- Data inventory and flow diagram
- Countries, people, vendors, and retention involved
- Applicable privacy rules and organizational risk method
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Do not treat this workflow as a substitute for qualified legal or data-protection advice.
- Complete the assessment before high-risk processing begins and escalate high residual risk through the legally required path.
- Minimize personal data included in assessment artifacts and restrict access to them.
Done means
A checkable finish.
The approved DPIA documents processing, consultation, necessity, risks, mitigations, residual-risk decisions, action owners, and a review trigger before launch.
