Build a Digital Archive Preservation Package
An organized, redundant, integrity-checked archive with documented formats, metadata, access controls, and migration responsibilities.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Define the collection scope, preservation value, owners, access rules, retention requirements, and exclusions.
- Inventory files across devices and services, preserve originals, and record source location, format, size, dates, rights, and sensitivity.
- Remove confirmed duplicates and unwanted files only under an approved rule, then organize retained items in a simple, meaningful structure.
- Apply stable filenames and basic metadata while keeping a mapping from original paths and names.
- Create preservation copies in durable, widely supported formats where appropriate without discarding original files.
- Generate checksums or other fixity data and verify copied files before declaring transfer complete.
- Maintain multiple copies on different storage media or locations, restrict access, and record backup, integrity-check, and migration schedules.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Collection locations and scope
- Retention and access requirements
- Available storage destinations
- Owner for future integrity checks and migration
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.
- Router:

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Never delete or transform the only copy, and preserve original files and metadata.
- Do not place sensitive, licensed, or confidential material in unapproved cloud or public repositories.
- Test restores and fixity; a successful copy command alone is not proof of preservation.
Done means
A checkable finish.
The archive inventory, metadata, original-to-new mapping, fixity results, redundant verified copies, access controls, and future check or migration dates are all documented and owner-approved.
