Build a Digital Archive Preservation Package

An organized, redundant, integrity-checked archive with documented formats, metadata, access controls, and migration responsibilities.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Define the collection scope, preservation value, owners, access rules, retention requirements, and exclusions.
  2. Inventory files across devices and services, preserve originals, and record source location, format, size, dates, rights, and sensitivity.
  3. Remove confirmed duplicates and unwanted files only under an approved rule, then organize retained items in a simple, meaningful structure.
  4. Apply stable filenames and basic metadata while keeping a mapping from original paths and names.
  5. Create preservation copies in durable, widely supported formats where appropriate without discarding original files.
  6. Generate checksums or other fixity data and verify copied files before declaring transfer complete.
  7. Maintain multiple copies on different storage media or locations, restrict access, and record backup, integrity-check, and migration schedules.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Collection locations and scope
  • Retention and access requirements
  • Available storage destinations
  • Owner for future integrity checks and migration

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: documents
  • skills/content/content-creator/SKILL.md
  • skills/product/pm-toolkit/grammar-check/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Never delete or transform the only copy, and preserve original files and metadata.
  • Do not place sensitive, licensed, or confidential material in unapproved cloud or public repositories.
  • Test restores and fixity; a successful copy command alone is not proof of preservation.

Done means

A checkable finish.

The archive inventory, metadata, original-to-new mapping, fixity results, redundant verified copies, access controls, and future check or migration dates are all documented and owner-approved.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
