Prepare a Copyright Registration Packet

A checked application worksheet, deposit package, and submission record for the claimant or copyright professional to review and file.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Identify each work, work type, title, author, claimant, creation date, publication status, prior registration, and any preexisting material.
  2. Determine the candidate application path and deposit format from current Copyright Office instructions, marking eligibility questions for review.
  3. Collect accurate claimant and authorship data and confirm what information will become part of the public record.
  4. Prepare the application worksheet and compare every field against source documents and contributor records.
  5. Prepare the required deposit copy or copies in an accepted format without altering the work being registered.
  6. Create a pre-submission checklist covering application, current fee, deposit, certification authority, and delivery method.
  7. After the authorized person submits, save the confirmation, case number, deposit record, correspondence, and follow-up dates.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Work and deposit copy
  • Author and claimant facts
  • Creation and publication history
  • Prior registrations or preexisting-material details

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: documents
  • skills/content/content-creator/SKILL.md
  • skills/product/pm-toolkit/grammar-check/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not decide ownership, work-made-for-hire status, authorship disputes, or eligibility for group registration.
  • Do not submit, certify, or pay without explicit authorization from the claimant.
  • Explain that registration data and deposits may have public-record consequences and refer uncertainty to a copyright professional.

Done means

A checkable finish.

The claimant or counsel approves a packet containing the completed worksheet, correct deposit, current-fee check, and submission checklist, and the final receipt is archived if filed.
