Run an Authorized Web Application Security Assessment

A reproducible, risk-ranked assessment of an in-scope web application with evidence and remediation guidance.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Obtain written authorization and record the target hosts, environments, test window, permitted techniques, excluded data, escalation contacts, and stop conditions.
  2. Map the application, identities, roles, entry points, APIs, trust boundaries, and sensitive functions without exceeding the agreed scope.
  3. Build a test plan from relevant OWASP Web Security Testing Guide areas and prioritize tests by business impact and exposed attack surface.
  4. Test authentication, session management, authorization, input handling, business logic, configuration, and client-side controls using non-destructive requests first.
  5. Validate suspected findings with the minimum evidence necessary; do not access unrelated records, establish persistence, or perform denial-of-service testing unless explicitly authorized.
  6. Record reproducible evidence, affected assets, preconditions, impact, severity rationale, and a safe remediation for each confirmed finding.
  7. Deliver the report through the approved channel, hold a readout with owners, and retest agreed fixes within the authorization window.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Written rules of engagement and scope
  • Test accounts and role matrix
  • Target URLs or API specifications
  • Approved test window and emergency contacts

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • skills/cybersecurity-skills/performing-web-application-vulnerability-triage/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Never test a target without explicit written authorization from its owner.
  • Honor asset, time, technique, rate, and data-handling limits exactly; pause on instability or unexpected sensitive data.
  • Use synthetic records where possible and store evidence only in approved locations.

Done means

A checkable finish.

Every planned in-scope test is marked pass, fail, or not tested with a reason; confirmed findings have reproducible evidence and owners; the report is delivered and acknowledged.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
