Build a Phased Zero Trust Roadmap

A current-state assessment becomes an achievable sequence of least-privilege, continuously evaluated access improvements.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Identify business objectives, critical data and services, users, devices, workloads, networks, trust relationships, and regulatory constraints.
  2. Map important access flows and document current identity, device, network, application, data, and visibility controls.
  3. Assess each area against CISA's Zero Trust Maturity Model and record evidence, gaps, dependencies, and existing investments.
  4. Define a target architecture using NIST zero trust principles: no implicit trust by location, per-request policy decisions, least privilege, and continuous signals.
  5. Prioritize use cases by risk reduction and feasibility, beginning with high-value flows and measurable pilot populations.
  6. Design pilots with rollback plans, user support, telemetry, policy tests, exception handling, and success metrics.
  7. Sequence funded initiatives, assign accountable owners, review metrics and exceptions, and expand only after pilot controls are verified.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Critical service and data inventory
  • Current architecture and access flows
  • Identity, device, network, and application control evidence
  • Business priorities and constraints

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • Router: cybersecurity-pack
  • skills/cybersecurity-skills/implementing-cisa-zero-trust-maturity-model/SKILL.md
  • skills/cybersecurity-skills/implementing-zero-trust-network-access/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not treat zero trust as a single product or disable existing safeguards before replacements are tested.
  • Pilot changes with approved users and explicit rollback criteria.
  • Record and time-limit exceptions rather than silently preserving broad trust.

Done means

A checkable finish.

Leadership approves a phased roadmap whose initiatives have owners, dependencies, funding assumptions, success measures, and rollback-aware pilot plans tied to documented current-state evidence.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
