Compare Public-Company Filings

A cited comparison of reported financial performance, risks, and management commentary from public filings, without an investment recommendation.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Define the companies, filing types, fiscal periods, metrics, and comparison questions.
  2. Retrieve the relevant 10-K, 10-Q, and material 8-K filings from official SEC sources and record accession dates or filing URLs.
  3. Extract audited or reported statements, footnotes, risk factors, and Management's Discussion and Analysis passages with page-level citations.
  4. Normalize units, currencies, fiscal calendars, and company-specific definitions while retaining the original reported values.
  5. Calculate clearly labeled period changes and ratios, showing formulas and separating calculations from issuer statements.
  6. Compare trends, disclosed drivers, accounting-policy differences, risks, and known data limitations.
  7. Deliver a source-linked table and neutral narrative for analyst or adviser review.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • Company names or tickers
  • Periods and filing types
  • Metrics or questions to compare

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

  • skills/finance/financial-analyst/SKILL.md
  • skills/finance/cfo-advisor/SKILL.md

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Do not predict returns, assign buy/sell ratings, or give personalized investment advice.
  • Use official filings for reported facts and distinguish issuer disclosures from derived calculations.
  • Flag restatements, non-GAAP measures, missing comparability, and questions requiring a securities or accounting professional.

Done means

A checkable finish.

Every factual statement and extracted value is traceable to an official filing, derived metrics show formulas, and comparability limitations are explicit.
