Incident Response
Investigate and Contain a Phishing Incident
A phishing campaign is scoped, malicious access is contained, affected users are protected, and indicators are blocked.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Open an incident record, preserve the reported message with full headers and attachments, and record reporter, timestamps, recipients, and initial actions.
- Analyze sender infrastructure, URLs, attachments, authentication results, and message content in an isolated environment without following live links from a production device.
- Search authorized mail and security telemetry for matching messages, indicators, deliveries, clicks, payload execution, suspicious sign-ins, and mailbox rule changes.
- Quarantine matching messages and block confirmed malicious domains, URLs, hashes, senders, and infrastructure through approved controls.
- For affected accounts, revoke active sessions and tokens, reset credentials through the identity provider, review MFA methods and delegated access, and inspect endpoint activity.
- Notify impacted users with specific instructions, escalate confirmed compromise under the incident plan, and preserve evidence for legal or law-enforcement needs.
- Monitor for recurrence, document scope and decisions, and convert lessons into mail-control, detection, and awareness improvements.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Original message or incident identifier
- Authorized mail and identity-system access
- Incident contacts and escalation policy
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Do not open suspicious attachments or links on a production endpoint; use approved isolation and analysis services.
- Search, quarantine, and account actions require authorization for the relevant tenant.
- Preserve evidence and avoid notifying an attacker-controlled address.
Done means
A checkable finish.
All known copies are quarantined, indicators are blocked, affected accounts and endpoints are contained, scope is documented, and heightened monitoring is active.
