Incident Response

Write a One-Screen Incident Status Update

A one-screen incident update that states current impact, verified facts, actions, owners, next checkpoint, and uncertainty without burying stakeholders in raw logs.

The process

Work it in this order.

  1. Identify the audience, incident channel, timestamp and timezone, current phase, and the decision or reassurance the update must support.
  2. State the latest verified customer or business impact, affected scope, severity, and what remains unknown, using plain language and explicit as-of time.
  3. Summarize active mitigation, investigation, communication, and handoff actions with one owner and status for each, while linking detailed logs separately.
  4. Distinguish symptoms from suspected causes, completed work from planned work, and a committed checkpoint from an estimated resolution time.
  5. Check privacy, security, legal, and audience needs, remove secrets and unnecessary personal data, and pause before sending through an external channel.
  6. Publish the update through the approved channel, record the version and recipients, and schedule the next update even when no material change is known.
  7. Return the update, supporting evidence, acknowledgement status, and unresolved risks, with follow-up ownership rather than an unqualified promise.

Bring this

Inputs the cat will ask for.

  • incident facts and current phase
  • audience and approved channel
  • impact and response status
  • owners and next checkpoint

Router + one playbook

Route first. Choose one.

Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails

The boundaries travel with the prompt.

  • Verify the actual tools, accounts, permissions, and workspace before starting; never claim an unavailable tool, account, source, or capability.
  • Use Latch/target-workspace for private code, artifacts, live probes, or non-public data; if that access is unavailable, stop at the boundary and report the blocker rather than substituting a guess.
  • Pause for explicit approval before consequential external actions; return evidence and unresolved risks, assumptions, and any action still awaiting approval.

Done means

A checkable finish.

A one-screen, timestamped status update communicates verified impact, current actions, owners, uncertainty, and the next checkpoint without exposing sensitive details or promising unsupported outcomes.

Behind the number

Two harnesses. One line.

Same number, same $100 credit. Pick the harness that answers when you text.

Hermes

Nous Research's terminal-native agent. It runs on your machine, keeps memory between sessions, and opens one playbook per task.

OpenClaw

The open-source assistant that runs on your own computer and answers in the channels you already use. One playbook per task.
