Operations
Maintain an Incident-Response Evidence Log
A time-ordered, access-controlled incident record that supports coordinated technical, management, insurance, and legal review.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Open an incident record with a unique identifier, reporter, time basis, initial category, incident lead, and approved communication channels.
- Define the initial scope and record affected systems, users, data, services, operational impact, and known unknowns.
- Log each event and response action in UTC with actor, source, description, decision, and linked artifact.
- Preserve relevant evidence without modifying originals and record acquisition time, method, custodian, location, and integrity metadata.
- Update the timeline, hypotheses, scope, containment, eradication, recovery, and notification decisions as verified information changes.
- Restrict access, label unverified claims, and route legal, regulatory, law-enforcement, insurer, and public communications to authorized leads.
- Close with a reviewed chronology, evidence index, impact summary, open actions, and lessons-learned update.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Incident identifier and initial report
- Authorized response roles and contacts
- Available logs and artifacts
- Organization notification and retention policies
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.

Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Do not access systems, delete data, notify external parties, or attribute an attacker without explicit authorization.
- Preserve originals and chain-of-custody details; do not contaminate potential evidence.
- Engage security specialists and counsel for material incidents and jurisdiction-specific notification duties.
Done means
A checkable finish.
The incident lead approves a complete chronology and evidence index, all material decisions have owners and timestamps, and residual actions are tracked to closure.
