Product
Draft an Evidence-Backed Product Requirements Document
A reviewable PRD that aligns stakeholders on the problem, users, outcomes, scope, constraints, and acceptance criteria without dictating unnecessary implementation.
The process
Work it in this order.
- Gather the product brief, user research, analytics, strategy, technical constraints, compliance needs, and prior decisions; flag evidence gaps.
- Write the problem statement, target users and journeys, current pain, business context, and why the problem matters now.
- Define measurable outcomes and guardrail metrics, distinguishing user or business results from shipping output.
- Specify in-scope capabilities, non-goals, assumptions, dependencies, constraints, and user-centered acceptance criteria.
- Describe major flows and edge cases, link designs and source evidence, and maintain an explicit unresolved-questions and decisions log.
- Review with design, engineering, data, operations, security, and affected stakeholders; incorporate decisions, name owners, and baseline the approved version.
Bring this
Inputs the cat will ask for.
- Product problem or brief
- Target users and available evidence
- Business and technical constraints
- Stakeholders and decision owner
Router + one playbook
Route first. Choose one.
Cat Paw loads one playbook per task rather than merging several. Start with this router; the remaining paths are workflow-specific candidates it can inspect.
- Router:
product-pack skills/product/pm-execution/create-prd/SKILL.mdskills/product/pm-execution/user-stories/SKILL.md
Guardrails
The boundaries travel with the prompt.
- Do not invent research, metrics, or stakeholder agreement.
- Keep solution detail proportional so engineering and design can evaluate alternatives.
- Label assumptions and unresolved questions; do not hide them as requirements.
Done means
A checkable finish.
The decision owner and required functions approve or explicitly record objections, every requirement has a rationale and acceptance signal, non-goals and open questions are visible, and the PRD is versioned.
